Axe hanging over town's Homebase

HOMEBASE in Evesham could soon be shutting its doors after the DIY giant put forward proposals for its closure.

The home improvement shop first opened on the Four Pools Retail Park in 2008 after taking over the lease from the now defunct Focus DIY chain.

Now the firm is holding a consultation on its future.

It is not yet known how many jobs are at risk if the company does shut up shop in the town.

Home Retail Group, which owns Homebase, has not said why it is looking at closing the Evesham store, but back in October they did issue a warning about their full year profits falling below expectations.

A spokesperson for Homebase said: “Homebase can confirm that the business has entered a period of consultation with colleagues regarding the proposed closure of our store on Four Pools Retail Park, Evesham.

“Colleagues at the store have been informed and we will be working with them to support them as much as possible.

“As the consultation is in progress, we are unable to comment further at this time.”
