PERSHORE councillors Dan Boatright, Carolyn Harford and Charles Tucker have cheered Wychavon’s decision to open the library car park to the public at weekends.
The Executive Board approved a recommendation to make public car parking available at the Priest Lane car park on weekends last month.
Coun Tucker said: “Liberal Democrats have called for this since the car park was built and given over to the NHS. It has always seemed a nonsense that the public could not use a car park that stood empty for large parts of the week and at weekends.”
“It’s great news that Wychavon has persuaded the NHS to revise their licence to allow the public to use it at weekends.”
The car park will be short-stay pay and display, like the main High Street car park.
The decision will take 12 weeks to implement before public parking can start, owing to the need to amend Wychavon’s Off-street Parking Places Order.
