A START date for construction of Evesham’s brand new Lidl store remains unclear after supermarket bosses said they were ‘reviewing various options’ to improve their current offering in the town.
The supermarket giant was given the green light by Wychavon District Council planning chiefs last November to demolish and replace their Broadway Road store.
Following the successful planning bid Lidl bosses said construction was due to get underway in the following six months.
However, the current store remains open and there is no sign yet when the ‘Lidl of the future’ store will be built. Lidl bosses had said the new store was due to open its doors in spring 2018.
The planned supermarket will feature an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing areas, customer toilets, baby changing facilities and 122 free car parking spaces, with space for bicycles, as well as improved facilities for staff.
Lidl bosses also said the new store will create up to 20 new jobs.
A Lidl spokesperson said: “We are continuing to review various options to find the best possible solution to improve our Evesham store for our customers.
“We look forward to confirming further details as soon as we are in a position to do so.”
