Brand new Evesham Lidl store to open in spring 2018

CONSTRUCTION on Evesham’s brand new Lidl store will start within the next six months, with the store expected to open its doors in spring 2018.

The supermarket giant confirmed the news after Wychavon District Council gave the green light to their plans last month to knock down and rebuild their Broadway Road store.

As well as the current store being knocked down to make way for the 1,424 sq m ‘Lidl of the future,’ the former St Richards Hospice building will also be demolished.

Despite being approved, concerns were raised about the access to junction to the new store, with Coun Keith Wright calling for the access to the site to be altered as vehicles are already ‘struggling dramatically’ to turn right into the car park.

In response, Highways Officer Gareth Jones said it was ‘difficult’ to see how that would work.

The new supermarket will feature an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing areas, customer toilets, baby changing facilities and 122 free car parking spaces, with space for bicycles, as well as improved facilities for staff.

Lidl bosses also up the new store will create up to 20 new jobs.

Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, Paul Hebblethwaite, said: “We could not be more delighted to have received planning permission, and look forward to getting started on construction.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their continued support, and very much look forward to opening our doors and offering our fresh, quality, great value products in the not too distant future.”
