A PERSHORE man has been sentenced to six years in prison for rape and sexual assault.

Gavin Parmenter appeared at Hereford Crown Court on Monday (May 9) where he pleaded guilty to one count of rape of a woman over 16-years-old, one count of sexual assault and one count of perverting the course of justice.

The 44-year-old has been remanded in custody since his arrest in July 2015 following the incidents which occurred in Pershore in April and July of last year.

Parmenter has also been placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Investigating Officer Det Con. Sarah Nicholson said: “We hope that this result provides some closure for the victim and sends a strong message to the public that rape and sexual offences are taken extremely seriously by West Mercia Police.”

Anyone affected by rape or sexual assault can refer themselves or contact the Glade, a sexual assault referral centre, which offers a free service, independent of the police, to anyone who may have experienced rape or sexual assault in Worcestershire.

There 24-hour self-referral number is 0808 178 2058 or visiting their website www.theglade.org.uk.
