AN INTERNATIONAL charity based in Pershore has been praised for their aid projects by Evesham’s MP Nigel Huddleston.

On a visit to Action on Poverty on Tuesday, September 22, a charity which provides support for some of the most marginalised and vulnerable people in the world, Mr Huddleston highlighted their widely respected projects.

The charity’s project in Tanzania, which empowers vulnerable women to take back their land, their livelihood or even their children, was described as one of the best projects in Africa by a UN Gender Monitoring team.

Mr Huddleston said: “I really enjoyed visiting Action on Poverty, meeting the team and learning more about the work they do.

“They are widely respected in the international development community because of the high impact and sustainability of their projects.

“We can be very proud that Action on Poverty is based here in Worcestershire and I look forward to working with them and supporting them over the coming years.”

Mr Huddleston also had talks with the charity on the need for long term sustainable development and its link with global crises and conflicts, and the response of the British Government to the Ebola virus.

Alex Daniels, CEO of Action on Poverty said: “ We had a very useful discussion and he seemed interested and keen to help Action on Poverty, particularly in the areas in which he is best placed – such asking questions of others and raising awareness; so perhaps we won’t stay as Worcestershire’s best kept secret!”
