WORK on a £900,000 scheme to transform Pershore High School’s community sports facilities is under way.
The work is set to play a crucial role in enabling Pershore Hockey Club to return to the town for the first time in decades.
The project, greenlit using cash from Wychavon District Council, will create a new floodlit sand-dressed artificial pitch for hockey and football training at the Station Road school.
The existing 20-year-old 3G pitch will be resurfaced and the floodlights upgraded to energy-efficient LEDs.
The 3G pitch is expected to be completed by the end of the month, with the sand-dressed pitch scheduled to be ready to use by the autumn.
The school facilities will be available for community hire outside of school hours.
James Cox, Facilities Manager at Pershore High School, said: “All at Pershore High School are delighted our project with Wychavon District Council to improve community sports facilities is now underway.
“The new sand-dressed pitch will bring many more opportunities for community sports use as well as provide our students with a great resource for their PE lessons.
“We look forward to the opening of the refurbished 3G pitch this August and the sand-dressed pitch this autumn term.”
