Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 15th Jul, 2018   0

RE-SCHEDULING of the timing of evening events is happening everywhere from school shows to other sporting activities, all because of a football match on Wednesday evening.

Of course by the time this article is online we will know if England have achieved glory in today’s FIFA World Cup Final.

World Cup fever has gripped the nation with more than 25 million watching the game against Sweden last Saturday; even people who are not normally interested in the game are suddenly turning on their TVs to watch.

But I must admit I am rather disappointed with how few England flags are being flown in and around Evesham. The other Saturday crowds gathered in Evesham to witness the Carnival as it travelled through the town, seeing the wonderful work that people had done to decorate their floats and advertise their organisations.

In the Gospels in the Bible we read of many occasions where large crowds followed Jesus Christ or were waiting for him in the towns and villages because they wanted to see and hear him.

As he walked throughout the Holy Land two thousand years ago, there was something quite magnetic about his demeanour and personality that drew all those people to him.

Jesus came from God to teach us about God and to introduce us to the fact that by accepting his wonderful love we can know and experience the energising power that comes from the Heavenly Father.
