Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 5th Nov, 2017   0

LAST Friday my wife and I were in La Coruna in north west Spain, sitting enjoying the beautiful sunshine and watching the world go by.

Suddenly, across the busy street, an elderly man appeared carrying a large Spanish National Flag, the La Rojigualda, trying to arouse interest from any of the passers by.

We realised, of course, that it was all to do with the happenings on the other side of Spain, the Catalan independence vote.

Down through the centuries there have been many breakaways, some peaceful and others with much bloodshed.

Two thousand years ago an itinerate preacher appeared walking alongside the Sea of Galilee and through the surrounding countryside.

Thousands of people followed him with many of them expecting him to be the leader of a revolution to drive out the Roman occupying army.

He did not come to fight a war with weapons and bloodshed because he was Jesus Christ who came with a message of peace, goodwill and love from God, his Father.

Some of the crowd did not like this and they turned against him because they did not understand the true reason for his being on earth.

Even today many will not respond to this message and refuse to even listen.

We live in an age of violence and this is truly the word of peace and love that we each need to accept into our lives now, especially in this period leading up to Remembrance.
