‘GREET your child with a smile – Not a Mobile” is a sign which meets parents as they collect their children from a school in Middlesbrough.
Staff at the school are concerned at the amount of mums and dads who are engrossed in texts and social media when picking up the children.
The teachers feel a child needs a welcoming face, smile and voice to greet them as they leave the school to go home.
Of course it has caused much controversy in the media with outcry from both sides of the argument.
A few years ago I received a telephone call on my landline asking if I had a mobile phone, to which I replied that I had. The next question was how much do you spend a month on your calls and I replied ‘50p’. Needless to say the caller hung up.
I am not a ‘dinosaur’ but I only use my mobile for necessary calls, not spending hours at a time, as I prefer to speak to people face to face.
Whilst we cannot see Jesus Christ face to face, prayer is a very precious thing that we can use as little or as much as we want to, but the door is always open for us to speak to him more.
Many people say that is difficult to pray but if we treat it like a normal conversation then it becomes so much easier.
Jesus wants to be our friend, so let us talk to him as if he is.
