Scout trio set gold standard

A TRIO of first Honeybourne Scout Troop members were honoured for their efforts by being awarded Chief Scout Gold certificates.

Jess Barret, Charlie Johnson and James Lamb received their certificates from troop leader Lyn Clements having worked towards the award for three and a half years.

The Chief Scout Gold is the highest award a Scout can achieve and requires a them to earn nine challenge awards and a range of other activity badges.

“Each one of them has shown dedication to the troop, attended weekly meetings, learnt many new skills and tried new experiences along the way,” said Lyn.

“Scouting has enabled them to have lots of fun, developing team and leadership skills and taking on individual challenges.

“They have done water sports, hiked, camped, learnt backwoods skills, crafts, cookery, and mechanics, along with carrying out service projects and attending parades.”

For each of them the highlight of their Scout journey was the Expedition Challenge.

“Working as a team they planned a three day hike and two nights camping, working out the route cards, timings and menus. They then carried their own kit, followed their planned route, set up camp and cooked, all of this being on one of the hottest weekends of the year,” Lyn added.

The talented trio will now progress onto Explorer Scouts, where they will continue enjoying the fellowship and challenges of Scouting.
