Restaurant and cafe owners are served a healthy eating gold

Evesham Editorial 4th Nov, 2016   0

AN EVESHAM restaurant and a café have become the latest food establishments in the Vale to receive the ‘Healthier Choices Food Award’.

The Potted Pantry, situated on Blackminster Business Park and Word of Mouth Café, in Vine Street, recently received the award from Worcestershire Regulatory Services, after being recognised for their healthier eating options and having the highest possible five-star food hygiene rating.

The Potted Pantry cooks meals produced in a traditional way, using locally sourced, fresh ingredients, as well as the family-owned Word of Mouth Café, who use seasonal food from their own allotment.

Previous winners of the Healthier Choices Food Award include Eckington Manor, Fusion Brasserie, in Stoulton, Bridge Street Kitchen, in Evesham and The Angel Hotel, in Pershore.

Nicola Vardy, co-owner of The Potted Pantry, said: “We have a constantly changing specials menu, offering seasonal as well as healthier eating options. Everything we serve is home-made and prepared using locally sourced, fresh ingredients.

“We’re proud of the standards we’ve achieved in our first 16 months since opening.”

Louise Roberts, co-owner of Word of Mouth Café, said: “We’re really pleased to be recognised with the Healthier Choices Food Award. We enjoy the challenge of making food everyone can enjoy, whether they suffer from food allergies, are vegan, vegetarian or just enjoy good home-made, wholesome food.”

Coun Gerry O’Donnell, who is responsible for promoting health improvement across Wychavon, said: “Eating healthy plays an important role in helping us live longer and improves our quality of life.

“We’re proud Wychavon has more than its fair share of fantastic food establishments, such as The Potted Pantry and Word of Mouth Café, who give people such a wonderful and tantalising choice when it comes to healthy, fresh and varied food.”
