Cafe owners are served a healthy eating gold

Evesham Editorial 7th Jan, 2016 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A SUCCESSFUL Evesham cafe has become only the second restaurant in the Vale to scoop a top healthy eating award.

Bridge Street Kitchen, owned by Donna Milimono and Dawn Welland, have won the Healthier Choices Food Award, run by Worcestershire Regulatory Services, which recognises businesses in the county that offer customers a variety of healthy and flexible food options.

Only restaurants who have a five-star food hygiene rating, like Bridge Street Kitchen, can be in contention for the top award.

The Evesham cafe was praised for offering customers the option of smaller portion sizes, a ‘Slimmer’s Breakfast’ and offering customers the choice of their food being cooked in a healthier way, such as being grilled rather than fried.

Donna Milimono and Dawn Welland, the owners of Bridge Street Kitchen, said: “We are privileged to receive the gold status with our Healthier Choices Food Award.

“We feel it is important we offer a range of food choices for our customers in order to cater for everyone’s needs.

“As a local family from Evesham we try and support the local community as much as we can and purchase a range of food from a number of local suppliers and have a daily special menu that always consists of home cooked food with a variety of fresh vegetables.”

Coun Gerry O’Donnell, who is responsible for promoting health improvement across Wychavon, said: “In Wychavon we farm and produce some of the finest food in the country and we have some of the finest food establishments that create exciting menus and cook delicious food that people love.

“I’m delighted that Bridge Street Kitchen has become another food establishment to be awarded the Healthier Choices Food Award and I hope more businesses will look to follow their lead and be part of this scheme.”
