Pershore Tennis Centre set to host LTA tournament for people with intellectual disabilities

THE award-winning Pershore Tennis Centre is set to host 35 players from across the UK in the LTA Regional Tournament for people with intellectual disabilities.

Organised by the national governing body of tennis in Great Britain, the Lawn Tennis Association or LTA, players who are successful will then qualify to play in the national finals at Wimbledon.

This is the 3rd time Pershore Tennis Centre are hosting a regional disability tournament with this event taking place on April 6 and 7.

Pershore Tennis Centre recently won the ‘LTA County Competition of the year’ award for this event in 2023. The local club have been running regular tennis coaching sessions for people with learning disabilities for over 5 years and a number of players will be competing at this year’s event.

Sophie Hall, LTA tournament director, says: “This event forms an important part of our calendar of disability tournaments. Following on from last year’s success we are delighted that Pershore Tennis Centre will be hosting this event again.




“Our vision is to open up tennis to more and more people regardless of age, background, ability of disability, and providing opportunities like this for our best players with Learning Disabilities is an important part of that vision.

“Pershore Tennis Centre has been chosen to put on a great tournament and I’m looking forward to it.”


Learning Disability tennis is part of the LTA’s Open Court programme, which is one of the biggest disability-specific sports development programmes in the country.

It supports 500 venues in the UK offer disability tennis sessions to their local community.

Head coach and tournament organiser, Steve, said: “The team at Pershore Tennis Centre is delighted to be hosting this event again. We want to share with our local and broader community how tennis competition can be enjoyed by all.

“Everyone is welcome to come and watch this tournament to see how some of the Britain’s best players with learning disabilities enjoy tennis competition.”
