Generous donations will help refugees

GENEROUS Evesham residents ensured volunteers of Evesham Vale Welcome Refugees had a bumper load of donations to help refugees across Europe.

A total of 20 willing volunteers turned out to Evesham Baptist Church to help sort, pack and carry the pile of donated clothes, blankets, toiletries and other goodies destined to help relieve the lives of refugees in Calais, Greece, Lebanon and Syria.

Donations included more than two dozen hand knitted or crocheted blankets, hand-made teddies brought to members by a lady from Australia visiting relatives in the Vale, sleeping bags and even tents, plus bags and bags of excellent quality clothing and footwear.

All of this and more will be sent via the Malvern charity People in Motion to where they are urgently needed as winter starts to bite.

A charity spokesperson said: “Our next collection will be in the early Spring and we know that once again our friends and neighbours will rise to the challenge.”

Evesham Vale Welcome Refugees works alongside the other Worcestershire Welcomes groups to offer help and support to those fleeing persecution, conflict and desperate poverty both here in the UK and abroad.
