AN ONLINE gamer swapped the consoles for the catwalk to beat off the competition and become Mr Worcestershire.

Dan Evans, from Throckmorton near Pershore, took on five other contestants on Sunday (November 2) to secure the first ever Mr Worcestershire crown and a place in the finals of Mr England.

The competition started with a boot camp, run by Xtreme Boot Camps, before a day of rehearsals was followed by the final ceremony at the Guildhall in Worcester.

Dan, who is celebrating double after turning 22 today (Friday), said: “I have been on stage before as a semi-professional online gamer but that is completely different to a beauty pageant so I was surprised to win.

“I have made some great friends through the process and tonight most of the contestants from Mr and Miss Worcestershire are joining me in Worcester to celebrate my birthday.”

All contestants took to the catwalk at the Guildhall in a series of outfits which included sportswear, fashion items, vintage and finishing with evening outfits.

The top three finalists were chosen by judges and Dan then went on to scoop the coveted prize and earn himself his place at Mr England in June next year.

“This is a new role for Worcestershire and I am looking forward to working in the community to see how I can help promote the county, especially as I go on to represent us at the Mr England finals in June 2015,” he added.

“So far I have had a lot of support from local business as well as my friends and family and I hope I do everyone proud as the Worcestershire contestant.

“Personally, this is a fantastic opportunity for me and I am going to enjoy every moment.”

Dan will also be raising money for Beauty with a Purpose, the Miss World charity which supports disadvantaged children globally.
