THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised to fund the funeral of an HMP Long Lartin Prison officer who tragically died on his way to work last Friday (October 31).

A GoFundMe page was set up for Ryan James by one of his friends Safiyyah A – to pay for the funeral and memorial costs.

Safiyyah paid tribute to Ryan, who is from Bidford-on-Avon, on the page: “He was a valued member of our team, known for his dedication, and the positive impact he had on everyone around.

“This fundraiser to help support his family during this difficult time and to cover the costs of funeral and memorial arrangements.

“Losing someone so suddenly is never easy, and we hope this fund can ease some of the financial burden so the family can focus on honouring Ryan’s memory.

“Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a difference and will be deeply appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping Ryan’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”

His brother, Ashley Horton, shared: “It is with great sadness, heartache and shock that I have lost my little bro Ryan James in a motorbike accident on Friday night. Fly high bro, RIP Ryan.”

Tributes from his Long Lartin colleagues have poured in, including one from Nurse Joanne Shaw, who wrote: “You were such a kind soul – I hope you are able to see all the lives you touched and the amount of love there is for you at Long Lartin.”

The crash on Sheenhill Road happened when the Honda motorbike Ryan was on collided with a Nissan Leaf around 7pm.

Despite CPR being given by bystanders and then West Midlands Ambulance Service crews, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The ‘In Loving Memory of Ryan’ page has a target of £5,000 and almost £4,500 has been pledged.
