AS Wychavon District Council leader, it is always a pleasure to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
As I thought of this year’s message, I was reminded of how fortunate we are to live in Wychavon. Our district is consistently named as one of the most desirable places to live in rural Britain according to the annual Halifax Rural Areas Quality of Life Survey, and whilst we take pride in such an achievement and can acknowledge the great variety in our district – from the beautiful countryside and the bustling towns, to the brilliant festivals and the diverse and well supported local economy – we are aware we can do more to make Wychavon a great place to live and work.
In 2018, we will continue to review and refresh our four-year strategy so we ensure we always live up to providing ‘good services, good value’ to people, place and prosperity.
For Droitwich we will continue the programme to improve aspirations, health and life chances in the Droitwich West, and work with Droitwich Brine Heritage Group and Churchfields Farm to use our brine to create and sell Droitwich Salt (featured in the latest WYCHAVON magazine).
We are also improving the management of and public access to the four Wychavon owned Droitwich Woods, Stoulton Woods, Avon Meadows and Broadway Gravel Pit, in addition to working with our partners to keep vulnerable residents warm in their homes by replacing inefficient broken boilers and installing loft and cavity wall insulation.
This is just a snapshot of some of things we’ve started in 2017 and a glimpse of what we’re committed to delivering in 2018.
We sincerely hope you will be with us every step of the way as we strive to keep Wychavon up there as one of the most desirable places to live in rural Britain, and we hope Christmas and the new year is a restful, joyful, healthy and prosperous one for all of you.
Merry Christmas.
Coun Linda Robinson
