It’s more treat than trick for all the family at Drayton Manor...

A FANTASTIC fun day out is promised for all at Drayton Manor Park in Staffordshire where there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained this Halloween.

During half-term Europe’s only Thomas Land will be transformed into the spook-tacular island of Sodor.

There’s fun rides for the younger ones to enjoy and explore including Flynn’s Fire Rescue, Toby’s Tram Express and Captain’s Sea Adventure – and don’t forget to knock on the Fat Controller’s door for a trick or treat before you leave!

Chief sub-editor James Iles took his children, aged 10, seven and three along to see what all the fuss was about.

Easily accessed off the M42, the popular theme park is only a short way from junction nine and really easy to find.

Plenty of parking ensured we did not have far to walk to the entrance and everything was clearly marked out for us which all helps with the kids in tow.

Visitors walk straight into the fun at Drayton and we headed left for Thomas Land – a cornucopia of rides and attractions with the Fat Controller and his helpers around to welcome all aboard.

Our three-year-old daughter, even though she is more of a Peppa Pig fan than Thomas the Tank, was in wonderland, in awe of the fun to be had.

From the more sedate train and car rides to the more uplifting Harold the Helicopter and Jeremy’s Jets, fair-goers can also enjoy the thrill of Cranky’s Tower Drop and the Rocking Bulstrode (height restrictions apply).

Thomas Land was also popular with our two sons who enjoyed the zoo too which is a nice break away from the excitement of the rides and leads to a great adventure playground near to one of the many places to eat and drink.

In the main park we enjoyed the dodgems, the Jolly Bucaneer and the Carousel but of course for the bigger thrillseekers there’s plenty of white knuckle rides – Maelstrom, G-Force and Apocalypse looked pretty daunting from where we stood listening to the screams of excitement.

We took a picnic and there were plenty of places to enjoy it. I was impressed by the ease of access to facilities and the prices were competitive for sweets and drinks we bought.

Half-term activities include the Thomas Land character shows, Trick or Treat at Maithwaite Station, Pumpkin Carving and lots of creative fun in the Discovery Centre.

Visitors looking for more of a fright can enter the theme park’s haunted house – The Haunting, which is spookier than ever. It promises to deliver scares as it takes the brave on a tour of their senses as they embark on a journey with Research into Paranormal Activity (RIPA), to investigate the mystery of people that went missing in his old vicarage 20 years before – if they dare!

Families looking to make a night of their half-term fun can put their feet up at the four star Drayton Manor Hotel, which has over 150 rooms including 15 Thomas & Friends™ themed rooms -www.draytonmanorhotel.com.
