Yellow ball event throws up competitive action

Evesham Editorial 23rd Jan, 2017   0

THE VALE Golf Club seniors braved the anticipated bad weather to play their weekly game in the format of a yellow ball competition.

As it was, the weather remained generally good and an enjoyable morning was had by all the participants.

Tony Hampson, David Wareing and Gerry Clayton led the field in with a score of 71 points on countback ahead of second placed Will Reading, Geoff Wilson and Adrian Duggan.

Third place was secured by Rob Sharp, John Eastoe and Mike Heard with 70 points.

The nearest the pin award went to Reading, whose ball tantalisingly finished 12 inches from the pin.

The following week saw an unwelcoming dawn reveal a dark and wet day with a forecast of continuous rain.

In typically stoical spirit, 36 Vale seniors donned their waterproofs and played a three-ball individual Stableford in difficult conditions.

Their fortitude was rewarded by a good competition as Division One was won by John Eastoe with 34 points, followed by seniors captain Derek Lambert in second with 33 points and Ed Mountney who was third with 32.

John Briggs came first in Division Two with 35 points, followed by Brian Leggott in second with 34 and John Scott third with 32.

Tony Perryman won the nearest the pin award.
