THERE are new names on both Wychavon Parish Games rounders trophies following Wick’s victory in Sunday’s event at Pershore High School.
Ten teams took to the playing fields for the competition, sponsored by Marshalls Transport, and it was the first time men had been allowed to compete.
Split into two groups of five, after the first rounds, it was unanimously decided not to hold play-offs for all places because of the intense heat.
Ashton-under-Hill and Wyre Piddle came out on top of the first group – both with seven points each – but Ashton-under-Hill were awarded top spot as they scored 3.5 rounders more than Wyre Piddle.
In the second group, Wick were clear winners over Sedgeberrow. In the final Wick – the smallest parish in the event – beat Ashton-under-Hill 7.5-5.5.
Other parishes which took part were Broadway, Inkberrow, Badsey, Harvington, Eckington and Peopleton, who were the only parish to field an all-female team.
The next event is the cross country, sponsored by Schloetter Co Ltd, which will take place on Monday at Pershore High School. This will be followed on Sunday, July 22 by the petanque, sponsored by Parsonson Planning Consultancy.
In the meantime, draw sheets have gone out to all parishes for the knockout events and dates for these have to be fixed by the end of July.
