Wonderful conditions for Stableford competition

Evesham Editorial 1st Nov, 2016 Updated: 3rd Nov, 2016   0

TWENTY-EIGHT ladies contested Evesham Golf Club’s Stableford competition, although this was not a qualifier as groundwork was being done on two of the greens.

It was such a beautiful autumnal day, with the tree-lined fairways now losing their colourful leaves but the sun shining through which made the course look wonderful.

Results: Division One – 1st Jenny Marston, 35 points; 2nd Ruth Masters, 34; 3rd Joan Hunt, 31.

Division Two – 1st Jill Cleary, 35; 2nd Marlene Billings, 33; 3rd Julie Winters, 31.

Division Three – 1st Penny Osborne, 35; 2nd Dinah Wood, 33; 3rd Lesley Kewley, 31.

TEAMS of three contested a Waltz competition which proved to be great fun as the pressure is on everyone to perform well on the holes when all three scores are to count.

The weather was again amazing as temperatures rose during the morning and everyone made the most of the warm and windless autumnal day.

This would also be the last of the 18-hole competitions as the club move into November when it is reduced to just 12 holes.

The winners of this very competitive competition were Dee Machin, Mel Evans and Jenny Masters with a brilliant score of 80 points on countback from runners-up Penny Osborne, Margaret Williams and Dinah Wood.

A FINE score of 87 points was enough to clinch the Mixed Triad competition honours for Malcolm Boscott, Jill Cleary and Carol Yates.

Thirty members played in teams of three with the best two Stableford points to count on each hole, with full handicap allowance.

Runners-up were Colin Cleary, Enid Walker and Richard Brumage with 78 points.

This proved to be a very enjoyable afternoon which was well organised by Enid Walker, Penny Osborne and Pam Saville and featured an excellent meal afterwards.
