Women's soft ball cricket festival is a resounding success

Evesham Editorial 26th Jun, 2017   0

SIX teams from across Worcestershire and Gloucestershire descended on Pershore Cricket Club for a highly successful women’s soft ball cricket festival.

This ECB initiative is designed to encourage women to take part in cricket and is a fun, fast and social game for all abilities, featuring a soft ball to reduce the painful side of the sport.

Members of both Pershore’s men’s and women’s senior cricket teams were on hand to coach each team and manage their games. Every team had their moment as players literally got into the swing of things with bat and ball in a fun but hard fought event.

The Plumettes from Pershore could not capitalise on their home advantage as Dumbleton emerged victorious, closely followed by runners-up Morton Mayhem.

Pershore Ladies train at the main ground in Defford Road between 6-8pm on Thursdays, warmly welcoming players of all ages and abilities. Opportunities are provided at all levels, with the development team currently topping the T20 evening league and the first XI competing in Women’s Midland League Division One.

The ladies’ section consists of players aged 13 to 50-plus, so age is no excuse for not getting involved. If you would like more information, email Nao Heywood at [email protected].
