Winter League battles hot up

BROADWAY Golf Club ladies continued their challenge for the 2015/16 Winter League title when round three’s foursomes were played over 16 holes on a mild but damp morning.

With the course still playing well, teams were able to enjoy some excellent golf and Hazel Balding and Maggie McDivitt earned an excellent first position with 28 points, leaving Juliet Bourne and Pat Righton to take second with 24.

Third place was taken by Barbara Crew and Alison Hewitt whilst Jenny Bruton and Wendy Hicks achieved fourth with 22.

The men were then out at the weekend to play in their Winter League and, with high winds being a feature of the day, play in the round three greensomes contest was extremely challenging.

Managing to find their form despite the disruptive winds were Barry Deeming and Malcolm Scarsbrook who brought in an outstanding 40 points to take first place, with David Drinkwater and Brian Wright taking second with a superb 39.

Third and fourth places were decided on countback with Nigel Bird and Rob Lord along with Andy Basford and Mike Williams both scoring a commendable 38 points to secure third and fourth places respectively on the leaderboard.

Whilst the ladies have a short wait until their next round in the new year, the men are to complete theirs later in the month.
