Wing Perry signs on at Sixways for further season

WARRIORS wing Perry Humphreys has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Sixways to the end of the 2021/22 season.

Humphreys, 26, has been consistent and dependable since he joined Warriors from Leicester Tigers in 2014 and is leading try-scorer this season with five from 12 appearances.

“I’m delighted that Perry has extended his contract. He has been a hugely consistent performer for the club since he came here in what was my last year as a player,” said Head Coach Jonathan Thomas.

“He has an excellent strike-rate as a wing and his all-round game and his fundamentals are really solid.

“There will be strong competition for places next season but I know that Perry will be working very hard to be part of an exciting back line.”

Having made one appearance for Leicester in an Anglo-Welsh Cup match against Ospreys in 2013, Humphreys joined Warriors the following year, initially as a member of the Academy and made his debut against Rotherham in the Greene King IPA Championship. He has now made 87 appearances and scored 23 tries.

“I’m really pleased to be staying with Warriors for next season,” Humphreys said.

“At a time when a number of players are struggling for contracts due to the reduction in the salary cap and in a time of uncertainty caused by the Cornavirus pandemic it’s good to have the security of a new contract.

“It’s been a tough season for us but there has been a lot of change and, with the signings we have made, hopefully we can get off to a good start and push up the table next season.

“There is going to be strong competition for places next season but that is good thing. It means that people have to perform well to get a place in the team and that drives up standards.”

Humphreys was a Championship and British & Irish Cup double-winner in his first season at Sixways and was invited to train with England’s senior squad ahead of their 2017 summer tour to Argentina on the back of a season on the back of a successful maiden season in the Premiership.

“I am really pleased to see Pezza continue his rugby journey here at Sixways,” said Warriors Director of Rugby Alan Solomons.

“Pezza is a quality, all-round footballer with top-end pace. He is also a great bloke and a tremendous team man

who has added huge value to the Warriors cause.

“We all look forward to continuing working with him.”
