Williams wins final trophy event of the campaign

Evesham Editorial 2nd Oct, 2017   0

THE ANNUAL Evesham Golf Club seniors Autumn Cup competition took place at Craycombe Links, where members enjoyed the final trophy event of the season.

A strong field took to the course and the format was a medal played off the white tees. Conditions were quite favourable for some good scoring but many players found it tough going.

The winner on countback was Martin Williams with a nett 74, with Bryan Rogers in second place.

A few days later, EGC seniors played their annual match against the club’s ladies.

This event is eagerly anticipated by both ladies and gents and is most enjoyable. The format was a better ball Stableford competition with the total score of each side being used to decide the winners.

The course was in excellent condition for the day and the weather was kind too. In the end, the gents ran out winners in a 222-206 scoreline.

EGC seniors were beaten 4.5-1.5 by Redditch in their rearranged home game.

This match had been postponed from earlier in the season due to flooding and second time around the day started out very wet and rainy but brightened up from mid-morning onwards.

Although the course was wet to begin with, this did not deter the players from their game and all the matches were close.

Evesham results: Ian Wood and Bill Dobie won 2 up; Mick Hocking and Alistair Millward lost 3&1; Doug Sharp and Phil Williams lost 2&1; Ken Hardacre and Richard Saville lost 4&3; Mike Whiteford and Mike Abraham lost 3&2; David Scott and Derek Jackson halved.
