VALE swimmer Will Gearey is set to compete at two major competitions in July and August, having qualified for the British Summer Championship and English Home Nations Championships held at Ponds Forge International Centre in Sheffield.
Part of a 12-strong squad travelling from Worcester Swimming Club, Gearey has qualified in five events at British level in the boys’ 13/14 age group, having achieved top rankings in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 50m fly and 100m fly events during the qualification window.
He will be competing against the country’s best age-group swimmers from established specialist swimming schools and city performance clubs.
The British Summer Championships start on July 24 and Gearey will open with the 100m freestyle – one of his favourite events – on Thursday, July 27.
The Prince Henry’s High School pupil made his debut at the British Championships in 2016, reaching the final of the 50m fly and setting one of the fastest times ever for a 13-year-old in the heats as well as achieving a top 15 finish in the 50m freestyle.
After the British Championships finish, Gearey will then travel back up to Sheffield the week after to compete at the English Home Nations in which he has three events – 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley.
Live streaming of all heats and finals at both championships will be available. Follow the action at www.britishswimming.org and www.swimming.org.
