WICK claimed the petanque title at the Wychavon Parish Games on the piste on the Waterside in Evesham.

A record 17 parishes took part in the event, sponsored by Parsonson Planning Consultancy, with parishes drawn into three pools.

And once all the group matches finished, play-off games took place to decide overall positions.

Wick lifted the trophy with Ashton-under-Hill runners-up while Badsey placed third, Fladbury fourth, Pebworth fifth, Harvington sixth and Hill and Moor in seventh.

The other parishes to take part were Broadway, Evesham Bengeworth, Bretforton, North and Middle Littleton, Sedgeberrow, Norton and Lenchwick, Inkberrow, Wyre Piddle and Eckington.

The one-day events break until September 14 and returns with the angling, sponsored by the Bait Box, which takes place on the River Avon on Evesham.

All the knockout events will commence following the completion of the petanque.
