WITH nominations now rolling in for the various categories in the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Sports Awards, it is time for our readers and the organisers to consider who should be in the reckoning for the headline Sports Personality of the Year Award – sponsored by Bullivant Media – publishers of the Observer.
The panel will meet in mid-September to finalise their final shortlist for the top award to be presented at the glittering awards evening at Sixways on November 4, but now is the time for you to put forward your suggestions as to who you think should take the crown which was awarded to Worcester Warriors star Chris Pennell at the 2014 event.
A public vote will decide who walks away with the lead award and you can increase the chances of your favourite sports star from the two counties being in line for the honour by e-mailing your suggestions and reasons for them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Whether your choice of sportsman or woman competes individually or as part of a team, as long as they are an elite athlete who competes in their chosen sport at the highest level and either play sport, live in or are from the two counties, then please let us know who you would like to be considered by the panel before the choices are put to a public vote in the months leading up to awards night.
The public can book tickets to be part of the star-studded awards evening at the home of Worcester Warriors by keeping tabs on www.morethansport.com where ticket details will soon be available and where details about sponsorship opportunities are now online.
The guest speaker for the event is Great Britain badminton star Gail Emms MBE who savoured the pinnacle of her career when she won a silver medal in the mixed doubles with Nathan Robertson at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Emms also won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, European Championships and World Championships.
Keep reading in the coming weeks for more news about the Sports Awards as the countdown continues to the exciting event.
