Whitehouse stars in winning return

BRETFORTON Ladies 2nds overcame the absence of a number of regulars to claim a 4-1 victory at Gloucester 4ths in Severn Division Two on Saturday.

Hayley Whitehouse made a welcome return to the squad and made an instant impression from the push back as she produced a mazy run through the Gloucester defence before firing the ball into top right-hand corner of the goal.

The Dufty duo of Hannah and Ness made constant attacks down the right wing and put some lovely crosses into the D, meaning Lucy Cole and Hannah Dufty went agonisingly close to increasing the lead.

Shortly before half time player of the match Whitehouse produced another lovely run down the centre and drew the keeper before neatly slipping the ball into the net to give Bret a 2-0 lead at half time.

Gloucester came back into the match and inexperienced keeper Deb Slatter was put to the test, making some really good saves before the hosts finally did score.

Spurred on by some great attacking play by Jemima Hutchison and Nat Benwell, it was Ness Dufty who grabbed the third Bret goal, and she then completed the scoring after some fine build-up play from the back by Andrea Cole saw her power past two defenders before feeding a sublime pass to Ness Dufty, who completed her brace.

This satisfying result against a strengthened Gloucester team cements third place for Bretforton, whose penultimate game of the season is the visit of second placed Cheltenham 4ths on Saturday.

Saturday’s match was kindly sponsored by C J Holmes.
