THERE were medals galore won by South Worcestershire Lifeguard Club members as the Vale youngsters began their year of competition in style at the Welsh Stillwater Championships.
The South Worcestershire 14/15-year-old boys’ team of Tom Clifford, Jacob Hesketh, Cameron Leach and Jacob Goodall won silver medals in the manikin carry relay and rescue medley relay, which was then topped by a gold medal for Clifford in the rope throw with his catcher Goodall.
Elsewhere at the Swansea University event, Lara Harding won a gold medal in the 14/15-year-old category rope throw with her catcher Ellen Forson and the girls swam up a category to compete with Helena Leach and Alice Forson in the team 16/17-year-old girls’ rescue medley in which they finished fifth.
Mia Robbins, like a number of the team, took part in her first lifesaving competition and achieved top ten finishes in all her races in the 13 and under category.
Amy Weston continued her success at these championships, despite only being able to take part for one of the days, as she achieved a silver medal in the 100m rescue medley and bronze in the 50m manikin carry in the 16/17-year-old girls’ category.
Similarly, Alex Jackson won gold in the 16/17-year-old boys’ super lifesaver and rope throw, as well as silver medals in the 50m manikin carry, 100m manikin carry with fins, 100m rescue medley and bronze in the 100m manikin tow.
