Victorious Walters joins an elite club

WELFORD Indoor Bowls Club’s AGM and presentation evening provided the opportunity of congratulating the club’s most successful bowler Andrew Walters.

Walters not only won the club singles but went on to win the England Indoor Bowls Association (EIBA) National Singles title by beating David Bolt from South Shields 21-8.

Walters is one of the few players in the country to have won both the National Indoor and Outdoor Singles title and everyone at Welford is extremely delighted for him as this is the first time in the history of the indoor club at Welford that the club has had a national title winner.

Trophies were presented as follows (winners listed first, runners-up second, then score):




Men’s Singles – Andrew Walters; Will Brundle; 19-14.

Ladies’ Singles – Yvonne Pick; Sally Easton; 21-18.


Silver Salver – Richard Hoskin; Mike Rowell; 21-16.

Rita Day Sets – Martin Woodall; Mario Rosso; Tie-break.

Ladies’ Pairs – Yvonne Pick, Val McDermott; Jean Bannister, Tilly Pearson; 24-22.

Men’s Pairs – Andrew Walters, Ken Chedgzoy; Simon Davies, Mick Hawkins; 24-12.

Mixed Pairs – Martin Woodall, Marjorie Woodall; Fred Coleman, Joan Parfitt; 29-13.

Men’s Triples – Mick Hawkins, Simon Davies, Fred Coleman; Bill Ward, Mario Rosso, John Oliver; 15-11.

Ladies’ Triples – Yvonne Pick, Val McDermott, Pam Farman; Jean Lythall, Margaret Swaby, Jane Hoskin; 15-11.

Mixed Triples – Di Weatherhead, Judy Holmes, Walter Lee; Ron Vizard, Martin Woodall, Marjorie Woodall; 22-19.
