THERE was another brilliant set of results for Evesham Vale Triathletes when 16 members competed in Tewkesbury Tri Club’s Spring Sprint triathlon.
The race consisted of a 400m pool swim, a scenic yet undulating 24km bike ride and concluded with a 5km run along the disused railway line around Cascades leisure centre.
James Vann was the first EVT member across the finish line and came tenth overall.
The EVT ladies also fared well as age group Great Britain athletes Nicki Osborne and Melanie Clarke claimed first place overall and first in the women’s veterans category respectively.
The event was also a time for firsts as Emma McCance and Jason Robbins entered the world of the fastest growing sport in the UK for the first time and both did exceptionally and have well and truly caught the ‘triathlon bug’.
For those interested in giving triathlon a go, EVT is hosting its own open water sprint triathlon – The Phoenix – which is based at Ragley Hall on May 22.
This is a fantastic local event and great for all abilities, from those taking the plunge for the first time to more experienced athletes who want an early season sharpener.
More details can be found on the EVT noticeboard at Evesham Leisure Centre or the event’s very own Facebook page (Phoenix Sprint Triathlon EVT).
