Vale sides prosper in county cup competitions

IT WAS an excellent weekend for Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League teams in the county cups.

Division Two outfit Alderton became the second Evesham league team this season to reach a county cup final as the village side made the GFA Sunday Intermediate Cup final thanks to a convincing 4-0 home win over Gloucester League outfit Wheatway Wanderers.

Evesham WMC joined Bretforton Old Boys in the semi-finals of the WFA Sunday Junior Cup thanks to an excellent 3-2 win at Plough Dukes.

Bretforton Old Boys remain on course for a quadruple after reaching their second cup final of the season with a 5-0 win against visitors New Inn Pershore in the Evesham Hospital Junior Cup.




Their opponents in the final will be Inkberrow who scored two second half goals to defeat hosts Broadway United 3-1.

Division Three side Dragons reached the last four of the Evesham Hospital Minor Cup by defeating visitors Cropthorne on penalties after a goalless draw.


They are joined in the semis by TDMS Harvington who edged out visitors Alcester Town 3-2, Badsey Recreation who were 7-2 home winners over Sun Inn and Broadway United Reserves who won 4-0 at Pebworth.

Division One’s Tewkesbury Town are through to the last four of the Mick Godwin Cup following a 3-1 home victory over Bretforton Old Boys Reserves in which Scott Jordan (2) and Matt Butler scored for Town.

In Division Two Fortis came out on top in their relegation battle with Bredon as veteran Phil Rainey (2) and Zinny Hancox scored for the hosts in a 3-2 win. Matt Kinmond netted twice for Bredon.

In Division Three Stour Excelsior Reserves saw their promotion hopes dented by Ambi Allsports who were 2-1 victors away from home as Scott McKenna struck.

Stratford HGC and visitors Ashton 88 shared six goals in an entertaining encounter as Kirk Beasley, George Spilsbury and Shaun Smith scored for Stratford and Keiran James (2) and Graham Begley were on target for Ashton 88.

First-half goals from Darryl Ballard, Connor Sherry and Callum Mason helped Strawberry Field United defeat hosts Fairfield Titans 3-2 despite a valiant second-half comeback from Titans who scored through David Stayt and Stephen Visor.

Will McGarr (2) and Jack Howard-Nailor were on target for TDMS Evesham in their 3-1 victory at Bengeworth, for whom Rob Burford scored.
