THERE was no catching Evesham’s Olly Turner in the chase for the British Racing and Sports Car Club Fiesta Junior Championship title – one of only four junior car racing championships in the UK.
After sealing an impressive championship win with a round to spare, it meant at the final round at the iconic annual Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch the pressure was off and Turner could enjoy the experience.
The Loughborough College student – studying the Motorsports UK Academy AASE programme for young racing drivers – secured the title after three committed years competing with Northampton’s JamSport Racing team.
Holding a junior title means a huge amount – rewarding a great deal of time, effort and finances and showing the motorsport industry how determined the talented youngster is.
Over the past three years Turner has attracted interested from some key names in the industry and sport, which was summed up well by Samco Sport’s marketing manager Phil Dowling, who said: “Olly has been a great driver this year and a fantastic ambassador for the series, racing and our brand.”
Going forward, Turner, who has proven ability and personality, would be a great asset to other brands, companies and race series and will be racing as a senior.
He is looking for seriously interested parties to get in touch to discuss how together they can move up the ladder of British motorsport. With adequate finances in the form of sponsorship, Turner will have the opportunity to reach the top echelons of the sport and show what he could continue to do for the sport.
British Touring Car Championship driver Bobby Thompson said: “As a driver coach, I have been really impressed with Olly’s performance this year and he has a great future in motorsport.”
