A MAGNIFICENT score of 43 points clinched Broadway Golf Club’s Joe Steward Trophy for Christopher Bennett and Mark Steadman.
The event began in torrential rain and blustery winds but the course continued to play superbly and provided the opportunity for some excellent scoring in the Better Ball contest and it was Bennett and Steadman who prevailed.
Runners-up were Steve Griffin and Mike Humpston who brought in an excellent 41 points, leaving Paul Bennett and Alistair Rogers to take third place on countback.
Club captain Warren McDivitt and his partner Mike Barnes came fourth with a well deserved 40 points.
Joe’s wife presented the pair of trophies in 1993 in memory of her late husband.
Meanwhile, Broadway’s ladies were out again to compete in the fourth round of the Mail on Sunday National Golf Classic.
The team of five were once again drawn at home, this time against the Cotswold Club, Chipping Norton.
The day began with light drizzle but this soon gave way to sunshine and Linda Carruthers, Vicky Watkins, Jane Wheeler, Rachel Rigg and Sue Barker were in excellent form and determined as ever to make full use of home advantage.
All matches were extremely tight but Broadway strode to an outstanding 4-1 victory and anticipation now mounts as the team await news of their round five draw.
