ANOTHER warm day on the Craycombe Links course greeted Evesham Golf Club members when they competed in Saturday’s Baker Cup contest won by Jim Jones with a nett score of 65.
The event incorporated the July Medal and 77 players took to the fairways alongside the River Avon.
Seven golfers managed to go below par for the course, most notably Jones for whom the Baker Cup is reward for a fine round, together with a handicap reduction from 13 to 11.
There was another fine performance from Adrian Robinson who took second spot with 67, just ahead of Pete Stanley in third on 69.
The par 3s produced a barrage of birdies with 15 players improving on the par score and once again Jones manged to outdo the field by finding the bottom of the cup with his second shot on the par 4 15th hole.
For the first time in more than three months, golfers were able to celebrate and commiserate with each other with refreshments being served on the terrace whilst keeping a social distance.
To ensure the club adheres to distancing guidelines, the club and members are utilising the latest technology to book tee times and record their scores via the internet – eliminating the risks associated with handling cards.
Competitions are coming thick and fast with the Dennis Heath Cup on July 15 followed by the Hospital Bowl three days later.
