Midland League Division One
PERSHORE Town all but secured safety as Steve Webb’s 84th-minute equaliser rescued a point against a resilient Stafford on Saturday.
With just one round of fixtures remaining, Town sit three points and two places above second bottom Pelsall Villa, whose goal difference is nine inferior to Pershore’s.
Despite their much-improved form of late, Pershore’s first half performance was lacklustre and Stafford were the better team.
The visitors hit the post with a free kick after 15 minutes and took the lead through Ryan Blagbrough’s close range header from a corner just before half time.
The second half, however, was a vast improvement from Pershore who virtually camped in the visitors’ half.
Stafford keeper Josh Moreton made two very good saves in quick succession, saving a Richard Robinson 30-yard shot and Webb’s left-footed volley from similar distance.
Jamie Clarke almost equalised when put through by Webb but the striker’s effort was again saved by the keeper.
Pershore’s pressure finally told in the 84th minute when Webb’s lofted cross shot curled into the top corner to earn a deserved equaliser.
Town’s campaign finishes on Saturday at Heather St John’s.
