Town are beaten in derby

PERSHORE Town were unable to repeat their Boxing Day victory over local rivals Littleton as they slipped to a 3-0 defeat at Five Acres in Midland Football League Division One on Saturday.

In an evenly contested first half, the hosts took the lead on the stroke of half time when Dan Holloway headed in at the near post from a corner.

Town never got into their usual passing game on an unpredictable playing surface and clearly missed their absent influential captain Craig Connor in the centre of the park.

The hosts took control in the second half by extending their lead after 60 minutes when a goalmouth scramble following a harshly awarded free kick resulted in the final touch from Pershore’s Matt Mitchell, who helped the ball into his own net whilst trying to clear.

Nathan Hayward scored the third Littleton goal ten minutes later with another near post header from a corner, following which the result was never in doubt.

Mid-table Pershore do not have a game this weekend and finish their campaign with away matches against Alvis Sporting Club and Uttoxeter Town.
