Touch rugby fun on offer at Pershore

Evesham Editorial 5th Mar, 2018   0

PERSHORE Rugby Club is offering anyone over the age of 18 the chance to get fit whilst having fun by taking part in the non-contact ‘touch’ version of the sport.

In March, the sessions are free of charge and Pershore RFC is offering men and women six ‘open’ touch rugby training sessions at its riverside grounds in Mill Lane, Wyre Piddle, thanks to the support of Wychavon District Council’s Get Wychavon Active programme.

The free touch rugby sessions, run by qualified coaches, will be held for an hour-and-a-half every Wednesday at 7.30pm and Sunday from 10am. No experience is necessary and anyone wanting to register should e-mail their details to [email protected] or come along to Pershore RFC and register at one of the sessions.

Fizz, who heads up the touch rugby section at the club, said: “There has been such a lot of interest in touch rugby ever since we set up our women’s group and now we have as many men training as women.

“Some are retired contact players, but others have never played rugby before. Because it is a non-contact sport, mixed sessions work really well.

“Anyone can play whatever their age. It’s a great way to get fit and if you love running about outdoors and having a lot of fun too, touch rugby is just perfect.”

Anyone taking part in the sessions will also get the chance, if they wish, to play in mixed touch rugby tournaments at local O2 Touch Rugby centres and for ladies there is also the Midlands Ladies Touch Rugby League, whose season runs from March to November and has 17 women’s clubs taking part.
