VALE racer Olly Turner claimed the driver of the meeting award in recognition of what was a testing time in rounds seven and eight of the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship at Rockingham Motor Speedway.
Turner and his Jam Sport team were looking to build on the progress made at Silverstone a few weeks before.
In qualifying, Turner manage to set a personal best time after a pit stop and tyre change midway through the session. He knocked off .6 seconds after just three laps, putting him 11th for race one and saving plenty of tyre for the notoriously rough surface and technical bends the Northamptonshire track is known for.
A swift start soon put Turner up the order but, following some exciting racing, a number of battle wounds meant the Evesham teenager had to pull off track with a drive shaft issue, ending what was promising to be a top six result.
Undeterred, Turner started towards the rear of the field for race two and, after another good start, allowed himself space on the infamous turn one, after which the attack began.
Moving through the field picking off car after car, the excitement started to build from the crowd and spectators.
Turner made advancements, displaying all of his fitness and resilience in spectacular style to finish fifth overall.
His appearance on the podium as driver of the meeting was fitting recognition for his efforts.
The Fiesta juniors will return to racing at Snetterton in Norfolk – a venue Turner relishes – on July 22/23.
