Title triumph caps a fine season for club

PERSHORE Tennis Centre’s ladies’ A team aces are celebrating after winning the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Winter League Division One Championship at the weekend.

The triumph was the latest accolade in an already award-packed season for Pershore TC’s ladies’ teams, including a title win for the B team and promotion for the C team.

The weekend’s match was set to be a nail-biter as Pershore Ladies A needed a 3-1 victory to win the league and their opponents Madley required a 3-1 win to avoid relegation.

Pershore ladies took full advantage of their new clay courts and powered their way to a 4-0 victory which, combined with their five wins and one loss in the county’s top division, secured the Winter Championship title for the first time in the club’s history.

Now the club can add this silverware to their cabinet of trophies and look forward to the Summer League and what looks set to be a season of fun at the club.

Club chairman and ladies’ club captain Sarah McCormick said: “It was an exciting win for the club. After winning the Summer Championship in 2017, we were determined to finally bring the winter title to our club.

“The ladies’ teams at Pershore have had a great winter season with our B team winning Division Five and our C team gaining promotion out of Division Six. The D and E teams have yet to finish but will end in the middle of their respective divisions.”

The club has already won Herefordshire & Worcestershire LTA’s Club of the Year honour and head coach Steve Bauer took the trophy for Coach of the Year for the second time in a row.
