THE WEEKEND brought plummeting temperatures and there was a definite feel of winter in the air as a packed field of Broadway Golf Club men competed in the first round of their Winter League contest.
Playing a fourball betterball format, all 104 competitors were given every opportunity to accumulate valuable points to begin their eight-round challenge.
Fuelled by their hearty full English breakfast, all strode down to their respective tees for the early shotgun start and there was no stopping Jim Covill and Dan Lamb who prevailed with 50 points.
Matching the tremendous score were Michael Harris and Curtis Major who finished second on countback, ahead of James Mooney and partner Adam Sutton in third with an excellent 48 points. Fourth were Chris Smith and Richard Craig with 47 points.
