MIDSHIRES Grasstrack Club is holding its annual Master of Midshires grasstrack motorcycle racing event at Victory Field, Ashorne, near Leamington on Sunday.

An action-packed event is in prospect at the Banbury Road venue (CV33 9QJ) as there are five adult classes racing – 250cc, 350cc, 500cc, upright solos and the awesome 1,000cc right-hand sidecars.

Reigning British Masters champions Colin Blackbourn and his passenger – local man Carl Pugh – are among a total of 24 impressive sidecars entered.

Northerners Rob Bradley, Paul Whitelam and Gareth Winterburn, Warwickshire’s Mark Cossar and Kent’s Rob Wilson are the men who will be expected to to push Blackbourn all the way for the honours.

In the 500cc solos, current British champion James Shanes will be returning to defend the crown he won in great style last year and York’s Paul Cooper, last year’s runner-up and winner of the 350cc class, will be hoping to go one better.

Young speedway riders Callum Walker, Zach Wajtknecht and James Wright should also be challenging along with Josh Dingle, Steve Daw and Harland Cook.

Evesham’s Scott Cresswell and Mark Taylor from Stourport are the local riders in this class.

The exciting Daw, Steve Green and Worcestershire’s Tim Curnock look to be the favourites for the uprights class, which also include Littleton’s Dave Meadows and Brad Hardman from Honeybourne.

Another Meadows – Dave’s nephew Eli – is racing in the youth section on his 125cc bike, whilst each of the 250cc and 350cc grids have a strong line-up with Jed Collins and Cooper looking for a repeat of their 2015 exploits.

There will be approximately 50 races, starting with practice at 10.30am, before the first race at 12.30pm and a finish time of around 5pm.

There will be hot and cold food available and toilet facilities on site, whilst trackside parking is available including some disabled spaces. Free camping is also possible from Friday evening with running water on site.

Kids under 16 go free, with adult tickets costing £12 and concessions £10. For more information visit or contact 07789 344963.
