BRETFORTON Ladies 2nds were edged out by their Vale neighbours in a ten-goal thriller on Saturday.

The hosts took the lead after five minutes but Bret were soon level when a swift counter-attack saw Kim Payne produce a fine run on the right and cross to Rosemary Logan who fired the ball home.

E&B regained the lead with a well struck shot which gave visiting keeper Linda Bell little chance but it was soon 2-2 when Payne again attacked on the right, ably supported by Amy Ball, and Payne won a short corner which Andrea Cole slipped to Ness Dufty who made no mistake.

Bret’s Lucy Cole had an excellent game in midfield and continually drove into the Evesham D, but again it was the hosts who regained the lead.

Given what had gone before it was no surprise when Bretforton levelled for a third time through Lucy Cole in a goalmouth scramble, but yet again E&B restored their advantage.

However, the visitors incredibly made it 4-4 at half time when Logan and Dufty pushed forward from midfield and Lucy Cole scored her second goal with a reverse stick shot.

The home side secured maximum points in the second period though as they converted two short corners and, despite their best efforts, Bret could not respond.

Despite the disappointing result for the visitors, there was some excellent play, in particular from teenager Ball and Lucy Cole.

Bret Ladies 2nds have two league matches remaining, the first of which is a trip to Cirencester 2nds on March 11.

Bretforton’s first team will be aiming to bounce back from Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat to leaders Lansdown when they visit Westberries 2nds in the North Division on Saturday.
