DYLAN Griffiths Johnson, from Pershore, became British taekwondo champion at a tournament held at Bromsgrove School.

The 15-year-old excelled in a number of hard-fought contests against competitors from across the United Kingdom and a team from the United States of America.

Dylan’s parents Rachel and Tony are both accomplished martial artists. They are incredibly proud of his achievements.

His father Tony said: “My wife and I teach martial arts so he was immersed in the culture and from the age of two-years-old was imitating some of the movements we were teaching.

“He has been quietly progressing through the grades over the years and has just blown us all away with his talent.

“He’s quiet and humble and we’re both just delighted by his achievements.

“When he was competing against martial artists from the USA team, they just didn’t know what to do with him.

“Afterwards, the coach from the USA team was so impressed he invited Dylan to train with them so we’re looking into the possibility over going over there next year.

“He’d love to be in the Olympic Games, he turns 16 soon and his training has made him more confident and shaped his character.”
