THE 11/12-YEAR girls led the Pershore Swimming Club charge for honours at the County Relay Championships which were held in Wolverhampton.
Each team raced 4x50m freestyle and 4x50m medley (backstroke, breaststroke, fly and freestyle) relays and all Pershore teams reached finals against strong competition from much larger clubs such as Worcester, Stourbridge and Halesowen.
There were strong performances, in particular from the girls’ 11/12 team of Jasmine Franks, Alex Barry, Hannah Woodcock and Emily Drayton, who won both gold medals to become freestyle and medley county champions as they broke records.
The 11/12 boys’ team of Hamish Cross, Kieran Cooper, Cameron Leach and Patrick Heeks also took the gold medal to become county champions in the freestyle and claimed second place in the medley.
The 13/14 boys’ team of Simon Sweatman, Luke Perry, Chris Vizard and Josh Sharratt won gold in the medley and silver in the freestyle.
Determined not to miss out in the medal stakes, the Pershore masters team of Simon Barry, John Sweatman, Andrew English and Mike Leach finished third in the freestyle and the ladies’ team of Marie Porter, Cerys Styler, Chloe Naughton and Buffy Simister finished second in the freestyle and third in the medley.
There were also medals for the mixed masters teams as they finished second in the freestyle and third in the medley.
Pershore SC head coach Tom Naughton said: “This was a great event for our swimmers with all age groups making finals and some well deserved medals won against stiff competition from across the county.”
