Super Pershore soar to victory in junior league

PERSHORE Swimming Club booked their place in the final of the Junior League with victory in the latest Division Two West meeting.

Pershore swimmers will now have the chance to earn promotion to Division One when they compete in September’s final.

Pershore faced stiff competition from Worcester B, Haden Hill, Oldbury and Wyre Forest but, despite the heat, their swimmers performed exceptionally well.

To increase the difficulty on the night, Pershore had three swimmers travelling down from another meet in Sheffield and the pool at Halesowen is 33m long.




Pershore looked strong throughout despite it being such a young team. There were some fantastic swims from boys and girls across the age range as a superb 21 wins were secured out of 51 races.

Individual event winners on the evening for Pershore were: Josh Heeks (nine, 66m Free, 33m Free & 33m Fly), Millie Thomas (nine, 33m Breast & 33m Free), Chloe Barnard (ten, 66m Breaststroke), Max Murray (12, 66m Fly & 66m Breast), Matt Franks (ten, 66m Breast), Mia Underwood (nine, 33m Breast), Esteban Chatron-Michaud (nine, 33m Back), Frankie Barry (nine, 33m Fly).


There was also great relay victories in the following events: Girls 11/u 4x33m medley; Girls 9 years 4x33m medley; Boys 10/u 4x 33m medley; Boys 9 years 4x33m Free; Boys 10/u 4x33m Free; Boys 12/u 4x33m Free; Boys 8x33m cannon; Boys 12/u 4x33m medley.

It was a two-horse race against Wyre Forest into the closing stages of the gala but in the end the relays made the difference and Pershore were victorious.

Final scores: Pershore 242 points; Wyre Forest 230; Worcester B 188; Haden Hill 175; Oldbury 148.

Other members of the winning Pershore team included: Mia Underwood (nine), Bella Barry (12), James Heeks (12), Jess English (ten), Andrew Thorner (11), Isobel Fairchild (12), Catherine Rendall-Baker (11), Jack Porter (ten), Natalija Kelly (ten), Martha Cross (11), Ethan Stanley (11).
