Sunshine and silverware for Turner - The Evesham Observer

Sunshine and silverware for Turner

Evesham Editorial 30th Apr, 2019   0

A MAIDEN trip to Pembrey circuit in South Wales for Vale racer Olly Turner resulted in plenty of sunshine and two more podium finishes to add to victories at Silverstone in the 2019 British Racing and Sports Car Club Fiesta Junior Championship.

Good progress was made during practice and Samco Sport junior driver Turner was hoping to consolidate this into qualifying, having set the pace in practice.

However, this was not meant to be as the #22 had picked up an issue with the engine and it was decided to forgo qualifying and start race one at the rear of the grid. This gave the Jam Sport Racing team more time to rectify the issue, change his engine and prepare for two promising races on the Sunday.

Race one got away safely and Turner navigated the hairpin of turn one. The goodsign.co.uk driver slotted into fifth place and started to make progress through the field.

Finishing third overall, Turner, backed by Autoenginuity of Evesham, was pleased with the decision to miss qualifying, knowing he had the pace and the experience to move through the grid and gain valuable point towards the championship.

Starting third on the grid for race two, Turner was very keen to see what could be done. A good start saw Turner in the running, moving up to second within a couple of laps.

From there the Rivers gym-supported racer was making up ground on the leader who by lap five picked up a technical issue and it was Turner who took over the lead. The #22 continued to drive consistent laps and eased to victory.

Turner now leads the championship by 32 points with the next rounds at Cadwell Park on May 11/12.
