Sun shines for Winter League opener

ON A COURSE still playing beautifully with weather to match, Broadway Golf Club’s ladies could have been excused for thinking they had stepped out to play on a spring morning rather than to play the first round of their Winter League.

Twenty-two teams were competing in the Better Ball Stableford and some magnificent scores were brought in. Leading the six-round contest are winning pair Chris Moulder and Pat Righton, who came in with an outstanding 40 points.

Taking second place with an excellent 36 points were Kim Lockyear and Chris Parkinson and fighting hard for third and fourth places respectively were Debbie Donoghue and Judith Noyce with a well deserved 34 points, ahead of Sheila Lawson and Sheila Aitkenhead on countback.

Thirty-six men’s teams were out at the weekend to play in their Turkey Fourball Stableford and this time the weather was less kind on the day as winds and torrential rain arrived.

Enthusiasm was not dampened, however, as was demonstrated by the tremendous scores as Alan Parker and Rob Webb took first position with an incredible 44 points.

Paul Childs and Brian Lawrence earned second with an excellent 43 points, leaving Jake Norman and Bill Sollis and Mike Humpston and Steve Griffin to take third and fourth places respectively, separated on countback.
